There are some destinations that instantly slow you down in the best possible way, and for me, Charleston is one of them.
I recently spent a few days there in April and was reminded exactly why Charleston continues to be one of my favorite U.S. destinations to recommend for couples getaways, girlfriends’ weekends, food-focused escapes, and even a quick luxury reset that doesn’t require crossing an ocean. For this trip, I stayed at Grand Bohemian Hotel Charleston, Autograph Collection — and it was exactly the kind of stay I love finding for clients: boutique-feeling, design-forward, incredibly walkable, and full of personality.
From the moment I arrived, the experience felt elevated without being stuffy. Guests are welcomed with fresh lemonade and champagne — a small touch, but one that immediately sets the tone for a relaxed and thoughtful stay.
The hotel itself feels more like an intimate art gallery than a traditional hotel. Throughout the property, you’ll find curated artwork, rich textures, bold design moments, and cozy spaces that feel distinctly Charleston while still modern and eclectic.
One of my favorite things about the property was the room layout. The guestrooms felt spacious and comfortable, with sitting areas that made it easy to actually unwind between exploring the city. It’s the kind of hotel where you want to linger a little longer before heading out for dinner.
And the location? Truly hard to beat.
The hotel sits in an incredibly walkable part of Charleston, making it easy to explore much of the historic district on foot without constantly needing rideshares or transportation logistics — something I always prioritize when recommending city stays to clients.
When booking through Globetrotter Travel, clients may also receive additional perks and VIP amenities depending on availability and promotions, which can add even more value to the experience.

One of the things I love most about Charleston is that there’s no pressure to “do everything.” The magic is really in wandering.
Some of my favorite moments from the trip were simply walking through the historic streets lined with pastel homes, gas lanterns, wrought-iron gates, and the hidden gardens tucked behind stone walls and courtyards. Charleston has this incredible way of surprising you around every corner.
A few highlights I always recommend exploring:
Charleston rewards travelers who leave room for spontaneity.
One of my favorite coffee stops of the trip was The Rise Coffee Bar by Mudhouse. Great coffee, relaxed atmosphere, and exactly the kind of place you want to start a slow Charleston morning.
And if shopping is your thing, don’t miss strolling down King Street. The mix of local boutiques, national brands, home stores, and curated fashion makes it one of the best shopping streets in the South.
One favorite stop? Kenny Flowers — perfect for elevated resort wear and vacation pieces that somehow make you want to book another trip immediately.
One of the culinary highlights of the trip was dinner at Wild Common.
The space itself is stunning — warm, stylish, and beautifully designed without trying too hard. Charleston is known for its food scene, and Wild Common absolutely delivered. Thoughtful dishes, creative flavors, and an atmosphere that felt special while still approachable.
We also had dinner at Halls Chophouse for a dear friend’s rehearsal dinner, and it was everything you want from a classic Charleston evening — decadent, welcoming, celebratory, and deeply Southern in the best way.
And one thing I fully embraced while in Charleston? Oysters.
I had oysters at multiple spots throughout the city, and every single one was incredibly fresh and wonderful. Charleston’s coastal food culture is such a huge part of the experience, and it’s impossible not to lean into it while you’re there.

Charleston feels timeless in a way few cities do. It offers history, incredible food, beautiful hotels, walkability, shopping, architecture, and that slower Southern rhythm that makes you genuinely relax.
It’s equally perfect for:
And having now experienced this stay firsthand, I’m even more excited to help clients plan Charleston in a way that feels personalized to their travel style.
Because the best trips aren’t just about where you stay — they’re about how a destination makes you feel once you’re there.
